08/21/10 - WestCOP Yonkers Office of Employment & Training had a “New York Sports Teams Day” on Saturday, August 21st, 2010.  We had 109 people in attendance and Mr. Met and Maddie, the Dog from the Liberty took pictures we all the children (photos attached).  There were goldfish given away, toys, and five bikes were raffled off.


Since 1989 Yonkers Employment and Training’s mission has been to provide help to low-income  residents in difficult times, and foster long term self-sufficiency.


TEAMWORK

Teamwork is a Job readiness Program. Its primary goal is to help family assistance recipients obtain and retain employment.  Teamwork accomplishes its goals through providing various services such as: Intense case-management, pre-employment workshops, as well as, motivational workshops.  These workshops cover such topics as:

“Identifying one’s passion,
Goal setting
Where you see yourself in five years?
Developing a plan
Conflict resolution
Self sabotage
Who’s got the kids?

 YOUTH E.A.R.N (Employment Assistance Referral Network)

Youth E.A.R.N is a program that has been designed for in-school and out-of-school youth.  Youth E.A.R.N works with High School seniors as well as the out of school population. This program works with ages 16 thru 24. Youth E.A.R.N prepares its participants for:

 Job Readiness
Customer Service
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
G.E.D programs

 As well as a number of other New York State recognized certificates. In addition, Case Managers provide referrals to other services as needed.

ICS

The Intensive Case Services (ICS) program is for clients that are referred for non compliance from the Department of Social Service (DSS). The function of ICS is to make contact with those DSS clients that have been referred to WestCOP.  Once contact has been made clients are scheduled to meet with either DSS or the employment vendors such as YCC, WestHAB or Urban League. ICS then monitors clients progress based on their particular regiment, i.e. some are put in programs that assist them in job preparedness some in vocational training and others in jobs.  The primary objective for ICS is for clients to become self sufficient.

TRANSITIONAL EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

Transitional Employment Program (TEP) assists employers with finding employees for their business, for a trial period to evaluate their skills. This program benefits employers as well as employees over a 3 month period. Please contact our office (Employers Only) for additional information.
