WestCOP is honored to have been selected as the recipient of a $25,000 grant from Field Hall
Foundation as part of its Spring 2022 Grant Awards. The grant will support supplemental
monthly nutritional assistance to senior citizens served through WestCOP’s Putnam, Eastchester,
White Plains and New Rochelle CAP sites.

Food security is a social determinant of health. Low-income food insecure seniors are known to
have lower nutrient intakes, due to higher costs associated with purchasing fresh, healthy food,
which leads to greater health issues. Funds from Field Hall Foundation will be used to purchase
foods that are high in nutrients such as fresh organic produce, whole-grain breads, low sodium
foods, low-fat dairy items, and lean meats. These foods will be provided monthly to seniors,
whose total household income is within 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, thereby
increasing their nutrient level and overall health. All recipients will be pre-screened to determine
income eligibility and will be provided with information/education on other services provided by
WestCOP as well as other community resources that they may be eligible for. The project will be
piloted for one year, beginning July 1, 2022.

WestCOP recognizes that poverty is both a cause and a consequence of poor health. Healthy
eating is a vital part of living a healthy lifestyle, as it helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
The funds from Field Hall Foundation are so appreciated and further support our efforts in
addressing both food security and nutritional health for our most vulnerable community
members.

Field Hall Foundation is a private foundation whose mission is to improve the lives of older
adults and their caregivers in Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties. $309, 265 was
